Kakslauttanen is a resort village in Saariselkä district, located in northern Finland, 1058 km from Helsinki. It's a gateway to the trails and ski areas of mountainous Urho Kekkonen National Park. Kakslauttanen is popular with its winter activities; Husky Sledge, Reindeer Sledge, Snow Mobile, Snow Tank... etc. Not forgetting of Igloo experience and Aurora Watching. It falls within the KP2 and KP3 zone of Aurora index. Higher chance to catch the Aurora, comparatively.
Aurora forcast can be track online.
Heading towards Kakslauttanen from
Turku is a distance. We will be travelling on night train, and a 3 hours bus ride before we could reach the Kakslauttanen East Village.
Experience in the train cabin was not too bad. It only comes with a 2 pax per cabin configuration. So, Queen and Princess will be in 1 cabin and I will be sharing a cabin with another caucasian. Definitely not expecting a 5-star hotel type of room size, it is almost the size of the cabin in the cruise. Sufficient for 2 pax, anyway just for a night.
We reach Rovaniemi train station the next morning and have to transfer to a 3 hours bus ride to Kakslauttanen.
Bus ride experience was not too bad, especially with the companion of HongKong Drama (溏心风暴3) throughout the journey. LOL...
As we were so engrossed with the drama, the 3 hours past like a zoom of light... Here we reach Kakslauttanen East Village.

Princess is all ready for some sledge fun. Those sledges are there for us to transport our baggage as it is quite impossible to wheel them around on the snow. Weather are really lenient to us, -4 Degree Celsius in mid noon. |
 |
Not forgetting to wefie while waiting for the resort transfer to bring us to the West village where the igloos are located. |

Finally our igloo is ready for us to check-in. Look at the height of the door, you literally have to bow before you enter the igloo. |
 |
Interior of the igloo taken from the exterior. Glass roof for star glazing in the night. |
My review of the igloo's experience:
- Space constrain, not much space to move around.
- Feel very warm during the night. We leave the door slightly open to bring in some fresh air.
- No coat hanger.
- Romantic star glazing experience.
- Not really suitable for people who expecting 100% privacy.
Some extreme sledge fun - Painful experience... LOL...

Didn't manage to view the aurora during our stay as it is cloudy and having slight snow. Index only show 1.8. However, still manage to capture a bit from the professional camera with extra exposure.
Husky Sledge Ride
  |
Dressed up with extra warm clothing and getting ready for the new experience. |
  |
We will be controlling the sledge, instead of just sitting in. So, getting some bonding with the doggies... |
  |
Left: Princess is having fun with these puppies that are still in the learning stage. Right: Queen will be paired up with others and she will be in control... omg |
 |
All ready to go !!! |
We ended our experience in Kakslauttanen, and will be taking a night bus south to Rovaniemi, where we find Santa Claus Village...
Stay Tune...
